Armello

Armello is a better-designed game than its storybook surface suggests, and the reason is one rule: the King is already dying of the Rot, so killing him is optional and expensive. Attacking him strips almost all of your Prestige, and the Prestige leader wins both when the King succumbs on his own and when a rival kills him but falls doing it — which quietly makes patience the strongest play and the table genuinely readable. What holds it back is the pace that creates at a four-player table, and a combat layer that hides its real decision, the burn phase, behind what looks like dice. Around 82 percent positive on Steam from roughly 16,000 reviews.

Overview

Che gioco è?

A digital board game where four animals race for the throne of a king who is already dying. Because he will die on his own, killing him is optional and expensive — and that single rule makes patience the strongest play.

Four victory conditions that are not equals

Kingslayer, Prestige, Spirit Stone and Rot, of which only Prestige collects passively when the others fail.

Attacking the King strips almost all your Prestige

the obvious route is priced, which turns a race into a game of nerve.

Fights are decided by burning cards

each card burned locks one die to a chosen symbol, with no limit, so a full hand beats a high Fight stat.

Corruption inverts two dice faces

for a corrupted hero Worms explode and Wyld symbols miss, so the Rot rewrites your dice rather than just adding risk.

Every hero spends exactly sixteen stat points

the roster is balanced by construction, and the differences live in Gold, affinity and abilities.

Honest caveats

the design rewards patience, which can make a four-player table slow, and much of the 24-hero roster sits behind DLC.

FAQ

Domande Frequenti

A digital board game of four animal heroes competing for the throne of a king dying from a plague called the Rot. Hex map, card hands, dice, four players, one evening. It was made and published by League of Geeks and released in September 2015, and it sits at around 82 percent positive on Steam from roughly 16,000 reviews.
That the four victory conditions are deliberately unequal. Kingslayer, Spirit Stone and Rot all require reaching the King and doing something, while Prestige simply collects when somebody else fails — it wins both when the King dies of the Rot on his own and when a rival kills him but dies in the battle. Since attacking the King strips almost all of your Prestige, the obvious route is also the expensive one.
In the burn phase, before any dice are rolled. You may burn as many cards from your hand as you like, and each one forces a die to show that card's symbol. Fight only sets how many dice you get, so a hero with 4 Fight and a full hand beats one with 5 Fight and nothing to burn. Ambushed heroes cannot burn at all, which is what makes ambush decisive.
Not on the stat line. Every hero in the game distributes exactly sixteen points across Fight, Body, Wits and Spirit, so a high Fight is always paid for elsewhere. The real differences sit outside that budget — starting Gold runs from 3 to 8, day or night affinity is fixed, and hero abilities are not priced against each other.
Yes, at interface, full audio and subtitle level, as do Russian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese. Thirteen languages with full voice acting is unusual for a studio of this size.
