FAQ

FAQ

A turn-based tactical RPG with a strategic sandbox layer from Overhype Studios. You lead a mercenary company across a procedurally generated medieval world, take contracts, recruit and equip fighters, and fight hex-based battles where any brother can die permanently. Think XCOM-style tactics meets a Mount & Blade mercenary sandbox. Single-player.
It was developed by the small German studio Overhype Studios and released in 2017, later published alongside Hooded Horse. It received several major expansions, including Warriors of the North, Blazing Deserts and Of Flesh and Faith.
It is famously punishing, with permadeath, heavy RNG and a steep, under-explained learning curve. Beginners should take easy contracts, avoid orcs and large undead packs, recruit for stats, hold a shield wall, and accept some losses while learning. Lower difficulty helps you learn.
No microtransactions or lootboxes — it is a cheap one-time purchase with paid expansion DLC. Replayability is enormous thanks to procedural worlds, many company origins and three escalating endgame crises; a campaign runs roughly 40 to 80-plus hours.
The Steam store centres on English, and there is no official Japanese, Chinese or Korean localization. The interface and text are fairly systems-heavy, so non-English players should weigh the language barrier before buying.
