Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus

A turn-based tactics campaign whose best idea is a clock. Every room you open wakes the Necron tomb a little, and a fully woken tomb ends the run — so curiosity has a price, paid in a currency you can count.

Mechanicus Best Disciplines — All Seven Ranked

Mechanicus discipline rankings usually compare armour stat lines. Those matter, but they are not what separates the disciplines over a campaign — Cognition is, because CP pays for extra moves, summoning troops and firing anything larger than the default pistol. So the disciplines that make or save Cognition outrank the ones that give you hit points. This ranks all seven, with the armour numbers, and covers what each is actually for.

Mechanicus Awakening — The Rounding Rule That Buys You Rooms

Awakening is the clock the whole campaign runs on, and most advice treats it as a penalty to minimise. It is not quite that. Mission ticks convert to planetary awakening in whole fives and the remainder is discarded. So four ticks cost nothing and five cost one percent. This guide covers exactly what raises and lowers the meter, the rounding rule, and how to spend the free budget rather than leave it on the table.

Mechanicus Beginner Guide — Cognition Before Everything

Mechanicus hands you tech-priests, a tomb full of Necrons and two resources it never quite explains. The first campaign goes wrong for most people in the same two ways — spending level-ups on damage before Cognition, and paying awakening they did not have to. This guide puts the opening in order: what Cognition actually buys, how the awakening clock charges, and which decisions are permanent.

Mechanicus Best Builds — Three Tech-Priests, Ranked

A tech-priest is a fixed budget of 25 augment slots spent across seven discipline trees, with no way to reset it. So builds are worth planning rather than improvising. These are three complete priests with the exact pieces, ranked. Then the armour arithmetic behind them, including the asymmetry that makes energy defence twice as investable as physical.

Overview

What's the Game?

A turn-based tactics campaign whose best idea is a clock. Every room you open wakes the Necron tomb a little, and a fully woken tomb ends the run — so curiosity has a price, paid in a currency you can count.

The awakening gauge is the game

entering a room costs 2 ticks, each combat turn after the first costs 1, and reaching 100 percent planetary awakening before the final area is a campaign loss.

Ticks round down in fives

every full 5 ticks becomes 1 percent and the remainder is discarded, so each mission has a free allowance the game never mentions.

Cognition constrains every turn

CP pays for extra movement, summoning troops and firing anything larger than the starting pistol.

Seven disciplines, not mutually exclusive

Explorator, Secutor, Tech-Auxilium, Lexmechanic, Enginseer, Dominus and the DLC Xenarite, mixed freely at a cost.

Levels are permanent

there is no respec, augment capacity stops growing at level 25, and each level costs progressively more blackstone.

Honest caveats

the tactical layer is competent rather than remarkable, and a sizeable share of the armour is strictly outclassed within its own slot.

FAQ

FAQ

A turn-based tactics campaign set in a Necron tomb, made by Bulwark Studios and published by Kasedo Games in November 2018. What separates it from its peers is the awakening gauge — exploring wakes the tomb, and a fully woken planet ends the campaign in defeat — so opening a room is a priced decision rather than free value. It sits at around 91 percent positive on Steam from roughly 14,600 reviews.
That mission ticks convert to planetary awakening in whole fives, with the remainder discarded. Finishing a mission on 10 ticks and on 14 ticks costs exactly the same 2 percent, so every mission carries up to four free ticks — two extra rooms or four combat turns — that most players throw away by rushing to the objective.
Cognition. CP pays for extra movement, summoning troops and firing any weapon larger than the starting pistol, so a priest built for damage before the CP economy exists spends the early missions walking and plinking. Lexmechanic generates CP directly, and Tech-Auxilium reduces how much you need.
Energy armour reaches +4 from items — Tech-Auxilium head for +2, a Dominus or Enginseer torso for +1, Enginseer legs for +1 — which nullifies any energy hit of 4 or less outright. Physical armour caps at +2 across the same slots, because only heads and torsos carry it. Energy defence is therefore twice the investment opportunity.
Yes, at interface, full audio and subtitle level, as do Russian, Simplified Chinese, Korean, French, German and Spanish. Full voice localisation is rare at this budget and it matters here, because the writing and the voice acting are a genuine part of the product.
