Read the Enemy First
Cannibals and mutants behave very differently. Reading the type before engaging is the single most important survival skill.
| Enemy Type | Behavior | Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Crawler | Fast ambush, strikes when you turn your back | Kill on sight — spear or axe is enough |
| Upright cannibal | Often passive unless provoked | Fight or sneak past depending on situation |
| Mutant | Strong and varied, mixed swarms and bruisers | Keep distance and use firearms or grenades |
Upright cannibals often won't engage if you don't approach. Breaking line of sight and slipping past is completely viable — you do not have to fight every cannibal you see.
Picking the Right Weapon
Ammo is scarce and hard to replace. If you burn through firearm ammo on surface cannibals, you'll be stuck for the caves and boss fights. The rule is — spear, axe, and bow on the surface; firearms in caves and against tough threats.
Basic Combat Flow
-
1
Gauge the distance
Compare your weapon's reach against the enemy's. Long weapons for melee, short ones favor ranged.
-
2
Aim for weak points (headshots)
Most enemies are vulnerable in the head. Spear, bow, and pistol headshots can one-shot.
-
3
Use blocking and dodging
Keep stamina in reserve to block or sidestep. Avoid taking unnecessary hits.
-
4
Retreat is an option
If the fight is unfavorable, fall back to Kelvin or your base.
Combine With Base Defense
Most raid pressure happens at your base. See Base Building for fortification, and the Beginner Guide for the early-game flow.
★Honest Take: Survival Is About Judgment
Honestly, this isn't a game about killing every enemy you see — it's a game about reading and responding. Sneaking past upright cannibals, slicing down crawlers on sight, and pulling out the firearms only against mutants — those calls dramatically change your survival rate. Once your gear catches up, you can even start enjoying the fortified-base raid scenarios.
